Kinglong AC buses

Travelling in these newly introduced gigantic AC buses, a thought came to my mind that design is an integral part of our lives! A iphone in one hand and nokia 1110 in the other, surely you can make out the huge difference! Its like having a Swan as a pet compared to a Crow. Everything we use in this world is the baby of a good/bad design. What is design? The dictionary meaning says - "the act of working out the form of something (as by making a sketch or outline or plan)" , "conceive or fashion in the mind" , "an arrangement scheme", "a decorative or artistic work". But what we mean by design in real sense is something that attaches comfort, attraction, as well as ease of use to a commodity. The costliest things in life are often the best designs of world. Take ferraris to costly phones, all have the best designs of world. Ergonomics, often a word associated with design means "The science of the design of equipment, especially so as to reduce operator fatigue, discomfort and injury".

Talking about this new AC bus, its the sister bus of Volvo you can say. So you already now half of the story. They have been newly introduced by Bombay local transport system known as Kinglong buses. It has an impressive layout with large legspace and very comfortable seats - that's more than you can ask for in an Indian bus. From first aid box to fire extinguishers, electronic circuit boards, automatic door opening to power steering - you name it and the bus has it!

The design of the bus has so been made that it provides everyone its comfort zone. Imagine the driver of the bus effortlessly moving the steering wroom wroommmm
zoom zoom as you see in NFS.Compared to the contemporary BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric and supply Transport) or PMT (Pune Municipal Transport) buses the engine of this bus is not under the driver's seat. Those who have stood with their "legs" near the driver seat, surely know what i mean. Your legs fry out to become a tangdi kebab at the end of the journey! The driver can actually ride the bus and not the other way round!

Talking of technicalities, the bus has well designed interiors, with good seat arrangement. It has ample of space to move about in the bus and a lot of legspace as i said earlier.Though I feel the design could have been so made to accomodate 6 to 8 extra seats but nevertheless.

The AC ducts at the top are provided at sufficient intervals to cool the bus evenly. From inside it has electronically automated switches as compared to hard mechanical switches in the normal bus. So they dont require oiling, maintainence or get stuck. A tired passenger can feel relaxed with some FM music in the bus or may be irritated, thats totally a personal choice.

Lastly i would say, anything that adds sparkle to our eyes is either a pleasant surprise or beautiful hues of colors! The new buses are of an attractive violet color, with catchy star shaped stickers all over its body. Whenever you see them from a distance, you know that something colorfully lit is making its way on the road and you just cant hold the feeling of riding in them atleast once!

  1. Design my friend is a issue of the heart, and i'm happy to see you've written it with your heart. In a country like ours, these buses surely are a welcome change. We have such buses in Delhi too, but they have been painted in blood(horrible red color), i guess they were trying to copy the London bus service. :)

How many people are getting seated in such buses? Are there any restriction on number of people standing? In delhi, we have these buses overcrowded, till someone's hand gets stuck in the automatic door and there is a huge cry. :)

All in all an interesing article. Can't wait to see whats coming up next from your table.

    God bless.
